Section 34-J Bramham By-Pass

Description of 34-J Photos 1990 - 2000

1. Photos of the A1 improvement under construction taken from Bowcliffe Bridge looking south

2. Similar photos to those in J-1 taken before reconstruction started.

3. Two photos of the A1 looking northward before the 1990-91 reconstruction started.

4. Temporary Bailey bridge to Bowcliffe Hall during 1991 - 92 while Bowcliffe Bridge was demolished and replaced by a higher one

5. Earth moving vehicles in action, preparing to block off Tenter Hill where it passed under the old A1. The new A1 was moved further west and at a lower level as a noise reducing measure and this old A1 road became the new access road to the new bridge over the new dual carriageway.

6. Two views of the old A1 about to be converted into the new access road to the village

7. Photos of the new Bowcliffe Bridge under construction.

8. The old pond that was just west of the old entrance to Bramham Park and the Biggin off the Great North Road together with a photo showing how the entrance off the A1 was blocked off so that the road to the Park could only be accessed from the slip road alongside the A1 down from Bowcliffe Bridge.

9. Two photos dated December 1990 showing the old A1 being converted into the new access road in the vicinity of the Bowcliffe bridge. In the lower photograph the new A1 carriageways are visible in the background.

10. The new A1 triple lane carriageways as they appeared in the summer of 1992 in the vicinity of the new Thorner Road bridge over them.

11. Two photos taken in the early summer of 1992 of the Tenter Hill bridges, the upper one showing the old bridge (not yet blocked off) with the new, lower, A1 in the foreground and the lower view showing the new Thorner Road bridge spanning the triple lane dual carriageways.

12. Road construction work in the neighbourhood of the Bramham Crossroads A64 junction with the A1.

13. Further photos taken just south of the A64 / A1 junction in October 1996.

14. Two views of the new A1 in full operation in 2000.
