Description of 23-E Lane Fox Family History
1. Page 86 of "Yorkshire Dead in Westminster Abbey" recording the interment on 14 April 1731 of The Right Hon. Robert Lord Bingley who died on 9th April 1731 aged 55.
2. The identical but somewhat enlarged record in item 1
3. A record of the burial on 11 March 1757 of The Right Hon. Lady Elizabeth Bingley who died on 26 Feb. 1757 aged 78 and also of the burial of her only daughter, Baroness Bingley in 1771. Her husband Baron Bingley died in 1773 and the tile became extinct.
4. Notes relating to the Manor of Cobham owned by the Lane Fox family, recording also that George Lane Fox was created Lord Bingley in 1762 and interested himself in laying out the grounds at Bramham though continuing to live in East Horsley.
5. 6. & 7. A record of the dissipated life led by James Fox after the death of his father, Lord Bingley in 1773 thus getting very heavily into debt.
8. - 11. An article entitled "The saving of a Yorkshire Estate: George Lane Fox and Bramham Park" by J.T. Ward relates the financial struggles and domestic complications in the family after the death of James Fox-Lane in 1821 and despite taking reasonable steps to resolve the situation his successor died in 1848 leaving debts in excess of quarter of a million pounds. His successor in turn tackled the problem by selling off various strips of land around the country to various railway companies.
