Section 22-M Harry Tindall Collection

Description of 22-M Bramham Place Names

1. Bramham and its Environs - Place Names

The first paragraph deals with the supposed local route of the old Roman road known as the Great North Road and other Roman roads in the neighbourhood that linked with it. There follows a list of local names in and around the parish giving their Old English or Norse origins

2. When this was written it said the village had 1237 inhabitants and 3760 acres. It gives John Watson of Malton's famous quote of 1781 about the wealth and facilities of the area and gives contemporary information about Bramham Park, Bramham Church, The Biggin, and the Free School together with details of the land owners and some financial data
