Description of 1-C Church Hill Images
1. & 2. A description of the cottages, possibly built in the late 17th century, along this lane and of some of the residents. At the bottom of Item 2 is a colour photo looking up the lane from the edge of the Village Hall car park.
3. Two views looking down Church Hill. The first, in black and white, shows three doors half way down that were the entrances to the privies mentioned in Item 1. The second, in colour, taken c. 2000 shows parked cars including one parked in the space left by the now-demolished privies. Some tarmac has been removed from the sides of the road in the foreground revealing the original cobbled surface.
4. A photo, dated October 1996, of the cobbles alongside The Swan in Church Hill plus a rear view of The Swan dated October 2000.
5. Untitled early photo of young man by a cottage, presumably on Church Hill.
6. Two photos of Primrose Cottage and Far Primrose Cottage as they were in the early 20th century showing also the quality of the original cobbled lane.
7. View from the church tower taken in 1937 by Arthur Tindall. The archway across The Cragg can be seen in the distance.
8. Photo of Primrose Cottage & Far Primrose Cottage plus one of the Village Hall car park, taken in Autumn 2000.
